6th RainShadow Wrestling Tournament Sequim hosted the 6th annual Rainshadow Invitational Wrestling Tournament January 3-4 at the High School. 18 schools and over 200 wrestlers competed in one of the most competitive tournaments in the state. 35 individual State placers from 2002 prowled the mats over the 2-day event including 3 State Champions. Kyle Bounds, Matt Viginali and Aaron Pediferi were tops in their weight classes in 2002 and all 3 came to Sequim to showcase their talents. The Rainshadow has grown in prestige since its inception in 1998 and features an extravagant hospitality room, complete with Dungeness crab salad and fresh caught salmon, to go along with top teams and individual wrestlers. Founded by wrestling coach Kevin McNulty and continued by Mark Fischer, the Rainshadow again featured some unbelievable wrestling. Local boys Nick Borchers (Port Angeles, 135 lbs) and Rodney Caldwell (Sequim, 119 lbs) took home the coveted hand-carved 1st place trophies, while Julio Garcia (Port Angeles, 125 lbs) and Keith Johnson (Port Townsend, 140 lbs) took 2nd. Cedarcrest (Woodinville), the top 3A team in the state in 2002, took the team title and Columbia River (Richland) placed 2nd just ahead of Clover Park (Tacoma).
