Swimmers Conclude Season
Submitted by Coach Linda Bingler - Feb 11,2006
We competed in the West Central District III championships this
weekend. Results are posted on the website. Overall, I was pleased
with the performance of the Sequim High School Boys Swim Team for
2005-06, where we finished in 9th place at Districts.
The newcomers to the team showed the
most dramatic improvements and success this season. James Cockburn was
enthusiastic and motivated all season and it showed at Districts where
he swam best times for his leg of the 200 and 400 free relays of 32.18
for the 50 in the 200 free relay and 1:14.11
for the 100 in the 400 free relay. Alex Skinner was equally successful
with a time of 40.17 for his breastroke leg
of the 200 medley relay and a 1:13.28 for his 100 leg in the 400 free
relay. Chris Gish trained with James
Cockburn and his enthusiasm showed at Districts with improvements in the
50 leg of the 200 free relay of 2 seconds with a time of 33.67. All
three are excited for next season.
Of the veteran swimmers, Steffen Estep
showed the most improvement. He worked hard all season and it paid off
at Districts in the relays. He qualified for the 50 free individual
event and swam in the prelims. This event is
so highly competitive that he didn’t qualify for the finals. His time
in the prelims of 27.48 was better than past results. He swam all three
relays and continued to show improvement through prelims and finals as
shown below:
50 free pre-district best time: 28.39 District
best time 27.48
100 free pre-district best time 1:03.24
District best time 1:02.99
Teddy Laboy was disappointed in his
performance at Districts. Although he had a best time in the 50 back
leg of the 200 medley relay of 33.60, his
freestyle and 100 back times did not improve. Due to other commitments
and illness during the season, his practice was inconsistent and he
plans to have a better season next year.
Taylor Hasenpflug
showed a similar time for the 50 free leg of the 200 free relay during
prelims to his past performance. He did not compete in the finals.
RC Harasick was our State hopeful this, his
last season as he is a graduating senior. He gave it a good effort
during the prelims in the 100 fly with a near-State qualifying time of
56.91, where he was fourth overall. In the finals however, his time was
a 58.00 and he placed 5th overall. The allocations this year
were top 4 per event, so he will not be swimming at State in the 100 fly
this year. In his other events, he swam a best time during prelims for
the 50 fly leg of the 200 medley relay with a time of 27.46 and finals
of 26.69, in the 200 free in the prelims of 1:59.22, and for his 100 leg
of the 400 free relay in the finals of 53.66. RC has been accepted at
West Point Academy and
will attend there in the fall.
