District Results
Well, we come to the
close of another season. The boys swim team competed well on Friday at
the District meet and everyone qualified to swim again on Saturday.

but here are our highlights:

400 free

White, Harasick,
Laboy
We finished 9th
overall out of 12 teams. The exciting swims were the 200 free relay and
the 400 free relay. They just decided they would swim their very best
and they did! The 200 free relay swam 14 seconds faster than their best
time and all achieved best times for their splits. The 400 free relay
was amazing. They were seated 8th going into the race and
dropped 9 seconds from their previous best they just set on Friday.
Their time was fast enough to place them 6th, but because of
the rules of high school championship meets, the highest they could
place was 7th. They all swim best time splits as well. They
dropped a total of 13 seconds from their entered and previously best
time. Individually, we were happy with all swim, especially RC
Harasick in the 200 free with a
personl best, Jake Brantley in both the 50
and 100 free with personal bests and Lane White in the 100 back where in
the prelims he clocked a PB of 1:07.79 by 3 seconds.
The enthusiasm was
fantastic. We had a good season and those that will come back next year
are already talking about what they plan to do to get ready for a
winning season.

Wolves Improve Against RoughRiders
January 18, 2005 Submitted by Coach Bingler
Today we
swm against
Port Angeles and it
was fun for the boys. The final score was Sequim 50, PA 119. Some of
the novice swimmers showed improvement such as Steffen Estep in the 200
free (dropped almost a minute) and Nick Deem in the 50 free (dropped 3
seconds). We took first place in the 200 free (Harasick)
and 2nd place in the 200 IM (Brantley), 200 Medley Relay
(Brantley, Deem, Harasick,
Laboy), 100 fly (Harasick),
100 free (Brantley), 200 free relay (Estep, Deem,
Hasenpflug, White), 100 back (White), and 400 free relay
(Brantley, Harasick,
Laboy, White). We’ve been working pretty hard in practice
lately, so I’m not too surprised that we didn’t see more improvement.
Now it’s the “sprint” to districts.

January 13,2005, Submitted by Coach Bingler
We swam against
Lindberg today and had good competition. The final score was Sequim 64,
Lindberg 98. We placed 1st in 4 events, the 200 free (RC
Harasick), the 200 IM and 100 back (Lance
White) and the 400 free relay (RC Harasick,
Taylor Hasenpflug, Lance White, and
Jake Brantley. Many of the boys
achieved new personal bests such as Lance White in the 200 IM and 100
back, RC Harasick in the 200 free, Steffen
Estep and Nick Deem in the 100 free, Jake Brantley in the 500 free and
100 breast. The team is swimming well at
this point in the season. We look forward to swimming the Port Angeles
team next Tuesday.

Anacortes Swamps Wolves in
Dual Meet
December 16,2004, Submitted by Coach Bingler
We swam against
Anacortes today in a dual meet. The final score was Anacortes 109,
Sequim 63. It was a good meet because they brought only 11 swimmers and
a lot of them were similar in ability to our swimmers. We only had 8
swimming today. We took 1st in the 200 Medley Relay (Jake
Brantley, Teddy Laboy, RC
Harasick and Lance White), the 200 IM (Jake
Brantley), the 100 fly (RC Harasick with a
new personal best of 1:01.84) and the 500 free (RC
Harasick with a new personal best of 5:59.62. Several of our
swimmers competed in events they hadn’t swum before such as Steffen
Estep in the 100 back and Nick Deem in the 100 breast. They did a great
job! New personal bests aside from RC’s above included Lance White in
the 200 free (dropped 40 seconds), Kyle Chen in the 50 free (dropped 3
seconds), Lance White in the 100 fly (dropped 35 seconds), Taylor
Hasenpflug in the 100 free (dropped 6
seconds), Nick Deem in the 500 free (dropped 23 seconds), Jake Brantley
in the 100 back (dropped 2 seconds).
Enthusiasm is good and
the boys are having a fun time this season. Their techniques are
improving daily. |
Boys
Dropped by N.Kitsap
December 14,2004, Submitted by Coach Bingler
We
swam against
North Kitsap in a
non-league dual meet. The score was North Kitsap 83, Sequim 67. We
took 1st place in the 50 free (Jake Brantley), 100 fly (RC
Harasick), 200 free relay (Harasick,
Teddy Laboy, Donny Nichols, Brantley), the
100 breast (Donny Nichols).
Donny’s breastroke was amazing. He hadn’t
swum it as an event before so didn’t know how fast to go, but the last
25 he just flew by the opposing team and won the event.
Very impressive. He is a great athlete.
Other good swims included RC’s 200 IM (improved by 11 seconds and
qualified for Districts) and 100 fly (improved by 1.5 seconds), Lance
White’s 200 free (improved by 7 seconds) and 100 free (improved by 7
seconds, District qualifying and broke a minute), Teddy
Laboy’s 50 free (improved by 1 second) and
Taylor Hasenpflug’s 200 free (improved by 10
seconds).
Overall, this is really a great team to coach. The athletes are so
enthusiastic and motivated. I’m very proud of all of them.

Boys
Battle Bainbridge, N.Kitsap and S.Kitsap
December 7,2004, Submitted by Coach Bingler
We
swam against Bainbridge today… and
North Kitsap….
And
South Kitsap.
When we arrived at Bainbridge and saw all the swimmers, we thought it
was an invitational. But, the Bainbridge coach did an excellent job of
streamlining everything so the meet ran smoothly and by 5:30 we were on
the road home.
We
competed pretty well, considering 5 of our 9 swimmers today had no prior
high school competition experience and for some no competitive
experience at all. We took 1st in the 100 fly and 100 free
and 2nd in the 200 IM and 50 free. Our 200 free relay stayed
with the big schools and we were a very close 3rd. We saw
some great swims by some new members of our team: Donny Nichols in the
50 free (27.90), Teddy Laboy in the 200 free
(2:31.93), 100 free (1:03.59), and Danny Thompson in the 200 IM
(2:50.72). And some great swims by our veterans Jake Brantley in 100
free (54.12) and RC Harasick in the 50 free
(25.71) and 100 fly (1:04.60). Overall, it was successful for us and
gives us something to work towards. Scores were not calculated for us
against
North Kitsap or South
Kitsap. We would have had a score close to equal to North Kitsap, but
South Kitsap is a powerhouse team and we would have scored similar to
Bainbridge against them.
We
have two home meets next week on Tuesday and Thursday. We hope to see
you there.
