Season Ends in Disappointment with Loss to Eagles

The Klahowya Eagles ended the wolves play-off hopes with an ugly 52-40 win at Sequim's Rick Kaps Memorial Gym on Tuesday. The loss, coupled with North Mason's win over Chimacum secured the title for the Bulldogs. The loss reduced Thursday's showdown with the Bulldogs to a game of pride for the Wolves. Sequim showed they definitely have pride by downing the 'Dogs 61-60 in front of a boisterous home crowd.

Wolves Continue March to Showdown With Bulldogs

Thursday's big game continued to be the focus as the Wolves eeked past a tough Steilacoom squad Friday night. Brady Marunde had 17 points and James Brabant hit some clutch free throws down the stretch.

February 4, the Wolves edged Chimacum on the Cowboys home floor. They played a close game and won by 2 points. The score was 62 to 60. James Brabant was the leading scorer with 14 points and Brady Marunde had 10 points. James Brabant and Evan Still both made 2 steals during the game. The boys played well together and worked as a team.

Sequim defeated Port Townsend Friday, January 31 to remain on track to play in the must win showdown February 13th against the undefeated North Mason Bulldogs. That game, in Sequim, will determine whether the Wolves get in to post-season play.

Welcome to Wolf Basketball. We are excited about the season and the group of guys we have. Thus far, they have shown a commitment to hard work and the team concept. Introducing the Sequim Wolves Varsity Basketball Team 2002-2003

Sean O'Meara - Sean is a scrappy sophomore forward who plays with heart and enthusiasm every day at practice. He is among the most encouraging player I have ever been around. He's great teammate.

Per Berg - Per is another sophomore who has worked hard to improve his game during the off-season. Per is a terrific shooter and is crafty around the basket His teammates call him Harry, because of his resemblance to Harry Potter.

Evan Still - Nails is his nickname (because some think he is tougher than nails). A solid point guard who is never flashy, but always steady. He finds the open man. His teammates voted him co-captain as a sophomore, which speaks to his leadership ability on the court.

Jerry Pedersen - Just off the football field, Jerry, a junior guard, is a tough defender and aggressive player. He can get out and run the floor and is willing to dive on it for a loose ball or two.

Matt Finitzer - "Finitz" is a junior forward who started most of last year. He has a great first step and can shoot the three. Best of all, he's a great teammate, always positive and encouraging.

James Brabant - James is a junior forward who is a great athlete. He can really run and jump so the comparisons to Coach Hill come often. James has been one of the most improved players during the past two years and his potential is limitless. Great offensive rebounder.

Brady Marunde - Brady is a multi-dimensional player who can shoot the three, drive and post up. He is a co-captain and a returning all-league player. A junior, Brady is coachable and team-oriented. He has a bright future at Sequim.

Arlen Riesau - "R" is our utility specialist. He can play all five positions. No one has worked harder than "R". He loves the game and plays whenever he can. He has a good mid-range game and can handle the ball.

Chris Mobley - "Mobes" is a junior combination guard who can shoot or take people off the dribble. He is a crafty player who is a good student of the game. We expect him to be a scorer for us this year.

Brian Lippert - Brian is our senior power forward. He likes nothing more than to throw his body aroung in the key. He is a very good rebounder and can run the floor. He plays hard every day in practice.

Pete McCallum - "Big Pete" is a senior center. At 6'8" he can cause problems for other teams inside. Pete has improved steadily over the past three years. He has a great attitude and loves to rebound.

Tony Walla - Tony is a senior forward who will be one of the top defenders in the league this season. He can attack the basket off the dribble and is an excellent offensive rebounder. Tony loves to compete.
